Fact-Checking Policy
The Today News aims to publish information readers can trust. This Fact-Checking Policy explains the steps we take before publication, how we handle claims that cannot be verified, and how to ask us to review an article.
Our fact-checking steps
Before publication, we: (1) identify each factual claim in an article; (2) check it against a primary or authoritative source where one exists, such as an official record, official statement or reputable reporting; (3) check dates, names, quotations and figures separately, rather than assuming they are correct because the surrounding story is familiar; (4) distinguish verified facts from rumour, opinion and speculation; and (5) remove or qualify any claim that cannot be verified.
Sources and evidence
We prefer primary and authoritative sources and link to named sources where a real authoritative source exists. A single source is not treated as proof on its own for a contested claim. If sources disagree, we report the disagreement rather than choosing one version without explanation.
What we do not publish as fact
We do not present social-media rumour, unverified viral claims, astrology-style predictions or marketing claims as established fact. Where a claim is widely discussed but unproven, we describe it as unproven or reported, and we explain what is and is not known.
Corrections after publication
News and online information can change. When new verified information becomes available, or when a reader shows us an error, we review the article, correct confirmed errors promptly, and update the article where needed. Significant corrections are made in the article itself so readers see the corrected version.
How to request a fact-check review
Please email admin@thetodaynews.co.uk with the article title, the passage concerned, why you believe it is wrong, and any source or evidence that supports the correction. We will review the request on its merits and reply by email where a reply is needed. No postal address or telephone number is published on this page, because no postal address or telephone number is published elsewhere on this site.
