Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Update 1.8.0 Brings New Game+, PS5 Pro PSSR 2 and a Free Naoe Outfit

Ubisoft released free Title Update 1.8.0 for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on Thursday 5 November 2026, finally adding the New Game+ mode players have requested since the Viking role-playing game launched in November 2020. The update, titled “The Most Requested Update”, also introduces a new Mithril resource, a rebuilt Rune Forge and upgraded PSSR 2 support for PlayStation 5 Pro. It is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
The headline addition answers one of the longest-running requests from the Valhalla community. Ubisoft had previously ruled out New Game+ in 2022, saying the game’s structure made a rewarding replay difficult to build. Nearly six years after launch, the studio has reversed that position with a full replay mode, fresh progression systems and a technical upgrade for Sony’s more powerful console.

New Game+ finally arrives — nearly six years after launch
New Game+ unlocks once players complete “The Holy Day”, the final quest in the Hamtunscire region. From there, Eivor’s journey can be replayed with skills, gear and abilities carried over, and the mode can be repeated, with difficulty rising on each new playthrough.
Replaying also feeds the update’s new economy. In a New Game+ run, receiving a piece of gear or interacting with a Book of Knowledge the player already owns converts it into Mithril, the new resource that powers the higher tiers of gear upgrades. Ubisoft’s full patch notes confirm the unlock condition and the Mithril conversion in detail.
Mithril, Divine Gear and a rebuilt Rune Forge
The progression overhaul goes well beyond a replay button. Ubisoft has raised the Divine Gear upgrade cap from 13 to 27, with Mithril required for those additional upgrades, and added an optional Extended Progression Mode that lets gear upgrades and runes contribute to Eivor’s Power level.
The Rune Forge has received its biggest change since launch. A new tab lets players upgrade runes using silver, moving them from lesser to normal, then normal to greater, and finally to Superior, a new tier available only through the upgrade page. The engrave page now offers more than 300 engravable runes, covering perks added since the game launched, including downloadable content and Helix Store items. A new Stash at Ravensthorpe gives players somewhere to store surplus gear.
What PS5 Pro owners actually get from PSSR 2
For PlayStation 5 Pro owners, the update integrates upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR 2) into the game’s rendering pipeline. Ubisoft says the improved upscaling delivers sharper image quality and better visual stability, and Quality Mode now runs at 4K and 60 frames per second on PS5 Pro, where it is also the default mode. A Low Energy Mode running at 30 frames per second is available on PS5 and PS5 Pro.
Ubisoft engineering studio manager Priscilla Nguyen said the update was an opportunity to integrate the upgraded PSSR, “delivering a noticeably sharper and more visually refined image quality in 4K and smoothness with 60FPS”, as reported on the PlayStation Blog. The same upgraded PSSR has already been integrated into Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the Black Flag remake, according to Ubisoft.
The 5.26 GB download on PS5 is modest by current standards. For comparison, GTA 6’s reported 210 GB PS5 download shows how much storage the next wave of blockbusters is demanding, which makes Valhalla’s free update an easy install for players returning to England and Norway.
A free Naoe outfit, two new trophies and the Animus Hub link
The update also adds a free Master Assassin outfit inspired by Naoe from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, giving returning players a visible reward from the newer game in the series. Completionists get two new achievements: Ivaldi’s Heir, for fully upgrading Divine Gear, and Circle of Renewal, for finishing a New Game+ run.
Valhalla also joins the Animus Hub Synchronization feature from 5 November, tying the 2020 game into Ubisoft’s cross-game hub. Weapon balance has been adjusted too, including several dual-wielding combinations, alongside a round of bug fixes listed in the full patch notes.
Download size, platforms and why Ubisoft returned to Valhalla
Title Update 1.8.0 is free across PC via the Ubisoft Store, Steam and the Epic Games Store, plus PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. The PS5 download is 5.26 GB; download sizes for other platforms were not publicly verified at the time of writing, so none are claimed here.
The timing puts Valhalla back in the spotlight during one of the busiest weeks of the year for games. The Zelda Ocarina of Time Switch 2 remake also launched on 5 November, and that crowded November schedule helps explain why a six-year-old game is suddenly topping UK searches again. For Ubisoft, the update is a low-cost way to keep Valhalla’s large installed base engaged while the franchise’s newer entries carry the series forward.
